Dear Margaret and Alan,

Some children in the North Region start every school year already behind. Not for lack of ability, and not for lack of trying, but for lack of a seat in the after-school and summer learning programs that close the distance. Right now 520 children in our region are on that waitlist.

Close the Gap is our answer. The campaign funds real, reserved seats in proven local programs, keeps children in them year over year, and follows each child’s progress so families can see the change for themselves. It works because it is specific. One seat, one child, one year at a time.

This proposal describes the seats your gift would open, what the program delivers for each child, and the recognition that comes with leadership support. Thank you for considering it. I would be glad to answer any question personally.

Amelia joined the program last fall after two years on the waitlist. The first month was about catching up. By winter it was about pulling ahead: finished homework, a reading log that kept growing, and a teacher who noticed the difference before anyone said a word.

Amelia’s seat costs about $2,400 a year. It is the single most effective dollar we spend, because it buys time with people who never give up on a child.

Step 03 You see it Twice a year you receive a progress report on the children your gift serves, with a standing invitation to visit.

We are inviting a small circle of lead donors to close the gap in the North Region. Your commitment funds reserved seats for children at the top of the waitlist, holds those seats for up to three years, and comes with twice-yearly progress reports on the children your gift serves.

Commitments may be fulfilled over up to three years. Every leadership gift is recognized in the Close the Gap honor roll.

Additional opportunities

Naming opportunities for program sites and cohorts are available for gifts of $250,000 and above.
